Gualjaina located in the Patagonia steppe was founded January 5 of 1928. Today its population is estimated in over 3000 inhabitants. The name comes from a legend spread among the first settlers, a mapuche girl named "Guajira" went missing close to the river. Her mother began to search in despair and screamed her name. Only the echo of her voice was left, similar to "Gualjaina".

This city is located in Patagonia Sur Argentina, northwest of Chubut province, in the Valley of Costa del Lepá and the Valley of Gualjaina, close to the Lepá river. The majority of its land is used for farming. Poplar and willow groves abound in the area, the plateau around it and the possibility of contemplating its mountain range.
